Centuries ago, scientists discovered that our self-image and our place in universe reflect also how we treat the animals. Our behavior towards animals copy the way we treat humans too. For most of us, having an animal is like a therapy and even contributes to a better understanding of ourselves. Having a pet represents more than satisfying a simple need. Other writers described the archeology proofs left 12.000 years ago by a tribe of hunters from Israel, proofs that include the bones of a puppy buried together with his owner that put his arm around the dog. The needs our animals coverAnimals cover a lot of the main needs their owners have. Aside company, the animals also give you the possibility to care for someone, to keep you busy, to feel secure and in some cases they are an excuse for you to work out, they let us touch and look at them and also they make us laugh. Animals can offer the feeling of family for old people; they can play the baby role for people who can't have children. The best part is that the animals accept us the way we are. Their attachment with us is unconditional. In many ways animals are good for us, especially for our emotional benefits. Pets and healthOne of the positive effects that we can see on pet owners is the interaction with the animals that helps reduce stress. Some studies made in United States shows that people who have pets have a better health because they can reduce the daily stress. To enjoy a strong bond with your animal seems to mean to be able to better adapt at hurtful and tough experiences from life and to better face the illness. Can a pet heal your heart? In the early 1980s, a study on 92 patients that were hospitalized for pectoral angina or heart attack shows that the patients who received visits from their family together with their animals had a bigger healing rate. The presence of animals can influence the kids’ arterial tension too. In this case 2 groups of kids were monitored, a group of kids who read and one who sleep all having a pet with them. It was discovered that both the pulse and the arterial tension decreased as long as the dog was there. It was discovered that the patients who had heart surgery and have animals in their house have a faster healing and a chance to fully recover. Studying more factors was discovered that people with pets have bigger chances to survive in the first year after heart surgery than people without pets. So from 53 patients with heart surgery and being pet owners only 3 died in the first year after surgery and 11 patients from 39 patients without animals died in the same time.
