RIP
Unfortunately Aschiuta lost the battle with liver cancer after only 3 weeks. He died on 21.11.2017 at 4:00 AM at his foster's home at the age of 19. He was probably the oldest stray dog, but we loved him very much and did our best to help him. RIP beautiful soul, you were loved and you will be missed everyday.
Who is Aschiuta?
Aschiuta is 19 years old and lived 15 years on the streets, caught by dogcatchers twice (once when he was a puppy and the second time when he was 15 years old). He remained orphan at just a few months old when his father died due to neck injury caused by dogcatchers and no one knows what happened to his mother. As a little puppy he had to find his way to survive on the street, find food and fight for territory. He grew up and with him generations of children. He is the proof that stray dogs are kind and loving. He loved being around children. Whenever he saw a group of children playing he goes there to play with them and he never bite, even though some children accidentally stepped on his paw.
When we stepped in 110%Time passed and he gets older and become hated by people. There was no reason to hate him, he was still kind and loving, yet people didn't liked him anymore. He endured 15 year of rain, snow and very low temperatures. There were nights where he was searching for food and our door was the only place to always find food. The person who took care of him and his father on the street suddenly paralyzed and that was the moment when I stepped in with full support for Aschiuta.
In 2014 he was caught by dogcatchers and the new law don't allow stray dogs to be released back in territory, so we found him a foster. During the accommodation period he got sick and then another bad news were that the foster have to move to a flat and sell the house and couldn't take him inside the flat. And we found him a new foster, an old couple. Their old dog died from cancer at age 16. When they saw Aschiuta they fell in love with him, they didn't cared he was 15 years old and sick. They welcomed him in their home and let me come every day to give him the treatment and after a month Aschiuta recovered and fell in love with their female dog. In foster he had his first year without being on the street freezing on winter. He was inside, enjoying meals in the kitchen together with his fosters and new girlfriend and watching the snow from the window. An even bigger health problemBecause Aschiuta was too old to survive the surgery to remove and check the liver tumor we didn't know if was cancer or not. We let the time passed and ensure we give him the best care possible with the best medicines.
Now, after 3 years we have the signs that he have cancer. We know cancer doesn't have cure, we can only help the body and the organs until the last moment comes. |
The biggest health problemUnfortunately, in 2015, after 1 year in foster he paralyzed by the back legs. We checked and there was no injury so being 16 years old dog was very hard. We tried every medicine available in the country, yet nothing worked, he didn't used his back legs and he was in big pain, so big, he couldn't sleep at night.
Puting him in a wheelchair wasn't a solution because the pain was still there and I had to find a treatment that will decrease the pain, and help him walk again, don't damage the organs (this year we discovered a 12 cm liver tumor, he was too old for surgery) and be a treatment for long-term use. And I asked on facebook if anyone knows something and a supporter suggested me Petwellbeing (an American veterinary herbal medicines company). I went to their website and read the reviews on the medicine called Agile Joints and the reviews were great and this gave me hope, but they don't ship to Romania. The same person who tell me about the company offered to ship the medicines to me. I had funds to pay for only 1 bottle, but he needed 2 bottle for a full month of treatment and the lady gifted the second bottle to us. After a lot of paperwork for the customs guess what...After the first administration Aschiuta's pain decreased a lot and slept for 12 hours and another surprise, in 3 days he started walking. 3 months we tried everything to help him and nothing worked and in 3 days with this herbal medicine he walks again. Our vet warned us that as he get's older it is possible his leg strength to decrease, but this happen after almost 2 years. He takes this medicine for 2 years and the pain is still low. A day without this medicine and the pain is back. We did regular check ups to make sure he is fine, we were using a medicine no one ever tried in our country and we wanted to be sure he is safe and Aschiuta was fine. The medicine didn't do any damage to his old body. |
